Art meets film at Berlin Forum Expanded

Experimental fringe section of the Berlinale sidebar

BERLIN -- Art meets art house again this year at the Forum Expanded, the experimental fringe section of the Forum, the Berlin International Film Festival's most experimental sidebar.

The 2009 Forum Expanded opens with a new work from experimental film pioneer Michael Snow, the opera "Puccini Conservato," which features extreme close ups of loudspeakers, the skin of the musicians and of tears in the audience during the performance of a Puccini opera.

The Forum Expanded will feature exhibits of numerous artists including Pavel Buchler, Stephen Andrews, Heinz Emigholz and the Canadian artistic duo Lisa Steele and Kim Tomczak.

The section also will host the world premieres of two experimental feature films: "All Fall Down" by Philip Hoffman and the essay film "Double Take" by Johan Grimonprez.

The Berlin Film Festival runs Feb. 5-15.
