Milo Ventimiglia Bonds With Dog in 'The Art of Racing in the Rain' Trailer
Amanda Seyfried, McKinley Beicher III, Gary Cole, Kathy Baker, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Martin Donovan and Giacomo Finn also star in the film, while Kevin Costner voices the pet, Enzo.
Fox has released the first trailer for The Art of Racing in the Rain.
Based on Garth Stein's 2008 novel of the same name, the film follows a dog named Enzo (voiced by Kevin Costner) as he and his best friend and owner Denny (Milo Ventimiglia) navigate life and Denny's aspirations to become a Formula One race car driver.
Amanda Seyfried, McKinley Beicher III, Gary Cole, Kathy Baker, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Martin Donovan and Giacomo Finn round out the cast, while Simon Curtis directed.
The trailer opens with Denny driving a race car in the rain. "No race was ever won in the first corner, but many have been lost there," narrates Enzo as his owner swerves.
Enzo explains that Denny picked him out of a litter of other puppies when he was young. "Call it fate. Call it luck," says Enzo as clips play of his early days with Denny. "All I know is I was meant to be his dog."
While the dog and owner bond over their shared love of race car driving, they also grow as a family when Denny meets and eventually marries Eve (Seyfried).
"The best drivers don't dwell on the future or the past," Enzo says as a montage of clips highlights Denny and Eve's wedding, the couple welcoming a daughter and Denny's burgeoning career as a race car driver.
More clips show the family facing hardships, and there's a shot of an ambulance that hints at Denny getting injured. "No one knows what curves life will throw at you, but if the driver has the courage to create his own conditions, then the rain is simply rain," Enzo says.
The trailer concludes with Denny and Enzo seemingly enjoying themselves as they drive in a convertible.
The Art of Racing in the Rain will be in theaters Aug. 9. Watch the full trailer above.
