Arts Alliance, Yelmo further digital deal

Eighteen more Spanish screens to go digital, 3-D

LONDON -- European digital cinema provider Arts Alliance Media is ramping up plans for digital cinema rollout across Spain via a deal with local exhibitor Yelmo Cines.

The deal will see AAM equip 18 new screens across Yelmo's circuit with digital cinema, 3-D and satellite capabilities.

The plan, announced Monday, expands on a pact signed last summer that saw AAM install five screens at Yelmo's Madrid Isla Azul multiplex.

AAM said the introduction of digital theater technology to the Spanish exhibition sector should provide a much-needed fillip.

"The digital cinema trial that we have been carrying out at Isla Azul has been a great success and now we are very excited about our partnership with AAM to deploy digital systems for 3-D at 18 of our sites," Yelmo Cines CEO Fernando Evole said. "At the same time, we will keep working together with our partner AAM to expand digital cinema in Spain."

The ultimate aim will be to digitize all of Yelmo's 351 screens in 31 sites across the territory.

AAM has installed and is operating more than 500 digital screens across Europe including in the U.K., France, the Netherlands and Norway.
