Ashley Benson Thriller 'Ratter' Nabbed by Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions
The film, about a cyberstalker pursuing an NYC graduate student, premiered at Slamdance and will screen at the Los Angeles Film Festival.
Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has acquired worldwide rights to the suspense thriller Ratter, starring Ashley Benson and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Branden Kramer.
The film, which debuted at this year’s Slamdance Film Festival, will screen June 14 at the Los Angeles Film Festival as part of the fest’s Nightfall section.
Written and directed by Kramer, Ratter is based on the 2012 short film Webcam, which Kramer wrote and co-directed. Benson plays a graduate student living alone in New York City who is being followed by a cyberstalker. The film also stars Matt McGorry and Rebecca Naomi Jones.
Financed by Start Media, the film was produced by David Bausch, Jamie H. Zelermyer and Ben Browning. Its executive producers are Michael Maher, Sarah Shepard, Matt Levin, Evelynda Rivera, Stefan Haverkamp, Jan Jaworski and Tom Kropp.
Zac Bright and Marc Bortz of Preferred Content, along with Mette-Marie Katz and Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films and Bethany Haynes of Sloss Eckhouse brokered the deal on behalf of the filmmakers with SPWA.
