CANNES -- Chinese TV giant Asian Union has signed a deal with German genre specialists Action Concept to co-produce a slate of 4-5 action movies shot in China and Europe.

The first title, "Mission Overseas," is a kidnapping drama. A Chinese chauffeur travels to Germany to rescue his boss' kidnapped daughter. Once there, he is forced to team up with a down-on-his-luck German detective.

"It's a classic buddy action movie with a lot of humor," says Liu Xiao Lin, executive director of Asian Union and a co-producer on the project along with Asian Union's Ma Zhongjun and Action Concept head Hermann Joha. "There is a great demand for this genre in China amongst a wide audience."

The $5 million production will shoot on location in China and Germany this year. Stefan Retzbach, the show runner for Action Concept's long-running autobahn cops series "Alarm for Cobra 11," will oversee the scriptwriting.

"Our productions have been very successful at Chinese theaters," Joha said. "Add to that now a mixed Chinese-European cast, high speed action Eastern and Western style and you get a lot of box office potential."

Action Concept's distribution arm Action Image will handle worldwide sales of the slate outside of Germany and China.
