AT&T to launch its mobile TV service

NEW YORK -- AT&T said Thursday it will launch its long-anticipated mobile TV service from Qualcomm Inc.'s MediaFLO USA in May.

AT&T Mobile TV with FLO will feature full-length and sports content from MTV Networks' Comedy Central and Nickelodeon, NBC, CBS, ESPN and Fox.

In addition, the service will feature two channels exclusive to AT&T. Specifics were not available but AT&T said more announcements would be made soon.

The service will be available to AT&T subscribers in select markets in May on the new LG Vu and Samsung Access handsets.

FLO TV has been available on select Verizon Wireless handsets for over a year.

AT&T first announced its plans to offer MediaFLO's service last February and at that time, the carrier said it would have FLO TV by the end of 2007.

The announcement comes as the CTIA Wireless trade show is set to begin in Las Vegas next week.

Last week the San Diego-based MediaFLO said that it had hired Jonathan Barzilay, formerly senior vp and GM of entertainment at CBS Interactive, to be senior vp programming and advertising. In this role, Barzilay is focused on maintaining and developing mobile content partnerships with studios, talent and production companies in Los Angeles.
