Atari names Jim Wilson president and CEO

Atari named Jim Wilson president and CEO effective immediately, the struggling video game company said Monday.

Wilson takes over the CEO duties overseen by Curtis Solsvig III, Atari's chief restructuring officer since October 2007. Solsvig came from corporate turnaround firm AlixPartners LLP, which had been retained to help the company review and implement its strategic options. Wilson recently served as executive vp and general manager of Sony Wonder, Sony BMG's home entertainment business.

Atari's parent company, Infogrames Entertainment SA, which owns a 52% stake, has offered to buy out the rest of the company for $1.68 a share. Atari recently asked for more time to consider the offer. The company's shares closed up a penny at $1.45 Monday.
