Atom Tickets Co-Founder Ameesh Paleja Joins Starz
Matthew Bakal will take over leadership on his own at Atom Tickets.
Starz said Friday it has created the position of chief technology officer and that it will be filled by Ameesh Paleja, a co-founder of Atom Tickets.
Paleja had been running Atom Tickets, the service that competes with Fandango, along with chairman and co-founder Matthew Bakal, who will take over leadership on his own, though Paleja will remain a board member and advisor and will be "head of innovation" at Atom Tickets, as well.
At Starz, a Lionsgate company, Paleja will report to COO Jeffrey Hirsch and will be based at the company's Englewood, Colorado, office.
Paleja was with Microsoft in 2001 and moved to Amazon two years later, eventually helping the giant online retailer launch Prime Instant Video.
He co-founded Atom Tickets — which integrates social media into its platform and allows for the pre-purchase of concessions — a few years ago, basing it on an idea that came to him after he grew frustrated while planning a movie night with friends.
"Connecting customers to the content they'll love has been a longtime passion of mine," Paleja said. "Starz has some incredible storytellers and I am excited to help connect their stories to millions of new customers around the world."
Paleja's appointment at Starz comes one day after Atom Tickets said it raised $60 million from Fidelity Investments along with previous investors Lionsgate, Disney and 21st Century Fox.
