Audiences 'Obsessed' at Friday boxoffice

'Fighting,' '17 Again' round out the top three

Moviegoers appear sufficiently intrigued with Sony's "Obsessed" to propel the suspense film to No. 1 over its opening weekend, as the Beyonce Knowles-Idris Elba starrer unspooled with an estimated $11.2 million on Friday.

Helmed by tyro feature director Steve Shill, "Obsessed" also stars Ali Larter ("Resident Evil: Extinction"). Its Friday tally well outpaced the second-highest Friday grosser -- "Fighting," a drama about bare-knuckled brawling produced by Rogue Pictures and distributed by Universal that copped $4.5 million in first-day coin.

Elsewhere among the Friday finishers:

-- Last weekend's top-grossing film -- Warner Bros.' Zac Efron starrer "17 Again" -- rung up $3.9 million, or 59% less than on the same day a week earlier.

-- The DreamWorks-produced pic "The Soloist" -- in which Robert Downey Jr. portrays L.A. Times columnist Steve Lopez -- opened with a fourth-best haul of $3.2 million.

-- And the inaugural Disney Nature documentary "Earth" registered $2.9 million, with a three-day cume of $8.5 million since bowing on Wednesday.
