The new song follows last month's preview of “Hunger of the Pine,” which featured a Miley Cyrus sample; both are available free for those who preorder the new album.

The song has a Southern-rock feel with what has been described by Billboard’s Jason Lipshutz as a “swaggering guitar line” and “some drum rolls punctuating the second half of the track,” with the constant between the two “Joe Newman’s inscrutable croon, which bends and flips over onomatopoeic runs before letting its inner rock god shine on the anthemic chorus.”

“Left Hand Free” hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Trending 140 chart this morning. “Hunger of the Pine” reached the No. 1 position on the Billboard Twitter RealTime Chart on June 18, the day it was released, and again the following day. “Hunger” also was No. 1 on Hype Machine and the most streamed song on Spotify the week of June 23.
