Australian Channels Break into Regular Programming, Carrying Bin Laden Announcement Live

Major international news channels all on pay-TV in Australia.

SYDNEY -- All Australian TV networks including pubcasters Australian Broadcasting Corp., Special Braodcasting Service (SBS) and commercial networks Seven, Nine and Ten broke into their daytime programming and crossed live to news networks as soon as word began emerging from the U.S. of the impending announcement of Osama Bin Laden's death.

Australian Broadcasting Corp. used Al Jazeera English, while SBS, Seven and Ten used CNN, Nine used U.S. ABC.

All then moved to their own U.S. correspondents after U.S. President Barack Obama's speech.
