Australian TV journalist faces higher drug charge

If convicted, ABC New Delhi producer faces 33 years in Singapore jail

SINGAPORE -- An Australian TV journalist based in New Delhi already facing drug charges in Singapore that could see him caned and jailed, was slapped with three more charges Friday.

Peter Lloyd, a 41-year old senior journalist with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, was swamped by reporters as he exited the Singapore courtroom where he will enter his plea next week.

Lloyd, out on $44,000 bail, already faces a possible 20-year jail term and 15 strokes of the cane for possessing and selling methamphetamine. Consumption and paraphernalia charges added Friday could add another 13 years in prision and $22,000 in fines.
