Autodesk Acquires AI Technology

GRIP Entertainment technology aimed at creation of characters for video games.

Autodesk has acquired technology from GRIP Entertainment, a privately-held artificial intelligence game middleware company based in Montreal. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"The acquisition accelerates Autodesk's strategy to offer a more complete, simplified solution for the creation of believable interactive characters," said Marc Stevens, vp games at Autodesk, in a statement. "The technology and expertise acquired complement Autodesk's existing gameware offerings, including Autodesk Kynapse artificial intelligence middleware. This transaction will enable us to offer game developers a more comprehensive AI solution.”

Staffers of GRIP Entertainment will join Autodesk, which is also the maker of entertainment content creation software including Maya and MotionBuilder.
