'Avatar' publicists up for ICG awards

Other nominees include campaigns for '2012,' 'Hangover'

Fox's publicity and promotion of boxoffice magnet "Avatar" figured among a half-dozen campaigns nominated by the ICG Publicists for showmanship awards.

Other nominated pics included Sony's "2012," Universal's "Couples Retreat," Warner Bros.' "The Hangover," Paramount's "Paranormal Activity" and Disney's "The Proposal." Only films using union publicists qualify for the recognition.

A winner will be announced at the ICG Publicists' annual awards luncheon set for March 5 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Century City.

In the television category, publicity showmanship nominees include "NCIS" and "NCIS: Los Angeles" from CBS Prods. as well as "V" and "The Vampire Diaries" from Warner Bros. Television.

"This is the one opportunity each year when the work of entertainment publicists is singled out for well-deserved recognition," awards committee chairman Henri Bollinger said. "This is when it is perfectly OK for publicists to stand in the limelight."
