AwesomenessTV, Film 360 to Produce Black List Screenplay 'Shovel Buddies'
Written by Jason Hellerman, the film tells the story of four teenage friends who try to complete a bucket list left by their late friend in only 24 hours.
DreamWorks Animation's AwesomenessTV has teamed with Film 360 to produce Shovel Buddies, a screenplay that was No. 8 on the 2013 Black List.
Penned by Jason Hellerman, Shovel Buddies tells the story of four teenage friends who, over the course of 24 hours, try to complete a bucket list known as the Shovel List left to them by their late friend before he died of Leukemia.
Film 360 approached Larry Shapiro, co-president at AwesomenessTV-owned talent management firm Big Frame, to package the project around digital native talent. He brought the project to AwesomenessTV CEO Brian Robbins (Varsity Blues) to produce.
Simon Atkinson and Adam Townley, part of British commercial directing team Si & Ad, have signed on to direct the project. Producers include Film 360's Dean Schnider and Ben Forkner, AwesomenessTV's Robbins and Shauna Phelan and Shapiro. Ali Itri is also producing. Casting is currently underway with production set to begin in the first half of 2015.
AwesomenessTV has made a recent push to produce more feature-length films with digital talent. It released Expelled starring Viner Cameron Dallas on Dec. 12, 2014 in a handful of theaters and on VOD. Awesomeness will likely employ a similar strategy for Shovel Buddies.
Hellerman is repped by Management 360, Verve and Carlos Goodman of Bloom Hergott Diemer Rosenthal LaViollette & Feldman. Atkinson and Townley are repped by WME and Grandview.
