Axel Duroux named executive vp of TF1

Former RTL chief to assist CEO Nonce Paolini

PARIS -- France's No. 1 TV group TF1 has named a new No. 2, with Axel Duroux set to take the reins as executive vp of the group, TF1 said Tuesday. Duroux, former RTL Group chair of the management committee, will assist TF1 CEO Nonce Paolini in all "social, strategic and operational responsibilities," TF1 said.

Duroux will officially start his new job in July. Duroux helped RTL to become the radio leader in France, taking the group from No. 2 status with under 6 million listeners in 2006 to the top rank in 2009, boasting more than 6.4 million listeners according to Mediametrie stats. He previously served as CEO of Endemol Development and vp of Endemol France from 2000-04.

"A new era is beginning for TF1," French newspaper Le Figaro said of the appointment. TF1 recently acquired DTT networks TMC and NT1 and is actively developing its digital thematic channels and Internet.
