Axiom joins Journeyman for 'Girl' pic

U.K. producer-distributor Axiom Films is partnering with Paul Mezey's New York-based Journeyman Pictures to produce David Riker's "The Girl," starring Emily Blunt.

The $10 million project, announced Monday, centers on a Texas woman (Blunt) who embarks on a life-changing journey with a young girl from Mexico.

Writer-director Riker is a New York-based filmmaker living in Mexico. He most recently won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at last year's Sundance Film Festival for "Sleep Dealer."

"Girl" will be produced by Mezey for Journeyman and by Douglas Cummins for Axiom. It is set to shoot on location this year in Mexico and Texas.

Mezey's credits include "Maria Full of Grace," "Half Nelson" and "Sugar." Axiom distributed "Nelson" and "Sugar" in the U.K.

Blunt's upcoming roles include Universal's "The Wolf Man" and British indie "Wild Target." (partialdiff)
