Axiom, Journey team for 'The Girl'

Emily Blunt to star in $10 mil project

LONDON -- U.K. producer/distributor Axiom Films is partnering with Paul Mezey's New York-based Journeyman Pictures to produce David Riker's "The Girl," starring Emily Blunt.

The $10 million project, announced Monday, details the story of a woman from Texas (Blunt) who embarks on a life-changing journey with a young girl from Mexico.

Writer-director Riker is a New York-based filmmaker currently living in Mexico. He most recently won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at last year's Sundance for "Sleep Dealer."

The film will be produced by Mezey for Journeyman and by Douglas Cummins for Axiom.

Mezey's previous credits include "Maria Full of Grace," "Half Nelson," and "Sugar". Axiom distributed "Nelson" and "Sugar" here in the U.K.

"The Girl" is due to shoot on location in Mexico and Texas later this year.
