AXN returns to Indian airwaves

NEW DELHI -- Sony Entertainment Television's AXN Channel will be back on air March 1 -- 15 days before the one-month ban imposed by the Indian Information and Broadcasting Ministry was to expire.

The ban was imposed after AXN was first warned by the ministry about a show it considered offensive, "The World's Sexiest Advertisements," which showcased saucy commercials. The channel, which largely airs a mix of international action-oriented programming and reality shows such as "Fear Factor," was subsequently pulled off the air.

However, in the wake of a formal apology to the ministry, the ban was lifted earlier than its due date, according to a statement issued Wednesday by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
