Azteca America joins DirecTV lineup

MEXICO CITY -- U.S. Spanish-language broadcaster Azteca America said Thursday it has inked a carriage deal that will allow the channel to be seen nationwide on the DirecTV Mas package.

Azteca America, owned by Mexico's TV Azteca, says that the agreement will help boost its "coast to coast" presence in the U.S. as it seeks to gain ground on market leaders Univision and NBC Universal's Telemundo.

Also on Thursday, the network announced it will launch a news studio in the nation's capital on April 14. The content produced at the Mexico City studio will supplement Azteca America's news programming generated stateside.
