Argentine Comedy 'Back to Stay' Wins Munich CineVision Award
The feature debut from director Milagros Mumenthaler won last year's Golden Leopard in Locarno.
BERLIN -- Back to Stay, an Argentine comedy about three sisters dealing with the death of their grandmother, has won the CineVision award for best newcomer for director Milagros Mumenthaler at this year's Munich Film Festival.
Back to Stay permiered in competition at the Locarno film festival last year, where it won the Golden Leopard for best film. Mumenthaler also scooped best director at Locarno, while Back to Stay star María Canale took the best actress nod.
Munich's CineVision honor comes with a cash busury of around $15,000 (€12,000), courtesy of German production/distribution company Senator Film.
Senator production exec Tania Reichert-Facilides will present the award at a ceremony in Munich on Friday night to Caroline Daube of The Match Factory, which is handling sales for the film worldwide.
The Polish drama It Looks Pretty From a Distance, from directing duo Wilhelm and Anka Sasnal, received a special mention from the CineVison jury. The CineVision Award is given to the best first or second film ba a director screening at the Munich film festival.
