BAFTA Awards: Margot Robbie, Daniel Kaluuya and Timothee Chalamet Attend Nominees' Party
The annual pre-awards event was held at London's regal Kensington Palace.
This year's crop of BAFTA nominees gathered Saturday at London's Kensington Palace for the annual pre-awards party.
Among the stars attending the glitzy soiree were Margot Robbie and Allison Janney (both nominated for their performances in I, Tonya), Octavia Spencer (The Shape of Water) and Kristin Scott Thomas (Darkest Hour).
The leading actor category was represented by Brit Daniel Kaluuya, nominated for Get Out, and Call Me by Your Name’s Timothée Chalamet. The pair were spotted in the King’s Gallery sharing a congratulatory moment, both men visibly impressed with the other, and spent some time deep in conversation, causing a queue of admirers and well-wishers to amass.
Behind-the-screen talent saw the likes of directors Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name) and Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049), as well as Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin, nominated for best adapted screenplay for Molly’s Game.
Notable non-nominees from this year in attendance included Patrick Stewart, Karen Gillan (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Guardians of the Galaxy) and Jameela Jamil (The Good Place). Former models Gillan and Jamil were seen sharing more than one joke together. The host of the awards ceremony, Joanna Lumley, also made a brief appearance.
While the Golden Globes paved the way for a symbolic black dress code in support of the #MeToo and Time's Up movements, this event had no such theme with stars dressing freely. However, it is expected for the BAFTA Awards ceremony itself to be a sea of black on the red carpet.
The party was held in the King’s State Apartments, which includes the grand King’s Gallery, whose decor of red silk-lined walls and regal portraits has remained pretty much unchanged since it was designed for King George I in 1727. For the BAFTA event, it was given additional touches of large floral displays, while partygoers sipped coffee-themed cocktails and canapés.
