Charlie Gray

It was Michel Hazanavicius' night at the Orange British Academy Film Awards, with The Artist nabbing seven trophies including best film, director, actor and original screenplay. "I'd like to thank The Artist most of all -- for not being adapted from a book!" joked Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy writer Peter Straughan as he collected the award for best adapted screenplay. Only Meryl Streep's best actress turn in The Iron Lady broke the top-line win streak for the black-and-white homage to the silent-film era. After the ceremony at the Royal Opera House, guests headed to the Grosvenor House hotel for a four-course late supper and afterparty (though disappointed nominees George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender made themselves scarce when the awards curtain came down). Partying went on into the early hours at Grosvenor House and across town at Mayfair's Le Baron nightclub, where the triumphant Weinstein Co. gang held court.
