Banff fest to fete Plowman for BBC work

TORONTO -- Departing BBC comedy chief Jon Plowman will receive a lifetime achievement award at the upcoming Banff World Television Festival, organizers said Tuesday.

Plowman, who is returning to independent production after producing such award-winning BBC series as "Absolutely Fabulous," "The Office," "Little Britain" and "The Vicar of Dibley," will receive his tribute June 9.

Plowman was made head of comedy at the BBC in 1994 after starting his broadcast career at Granada.

"I have spent my entire career in broadcasting in roles that I have been privileged to hold," Plowman said in a statement Tuesday. "It is an honor to be recognized for a fulfilling career by a festival that celebrates the best in our industry."

The Banff World Television Festival, an annual TV conference and market in the Canadian Rockies, is set to run June 8-11.
