Banijay Names Frederic Balmary Studio COO Amid Push Into Scripted Fare
Camille Gatin will also come on board as international producer.
Banijay Group, the international indie production house behind reality hits such as Keeping Up with the Kardashians, has made two key appointments as it ramps up its scripted development.
The French group has appointed Frederic Balmary to the newly created position of COO of Banijay Studios International.
Balmary will oversee business development for Banijay’s scripted arm both through mergers and acquisitions as well as content production growth. The group was previously behind the Aussie drama Wolf Creek.
The move will see Balmary, who was previously in the CFO spot and has been with the company since 2011, work directly under head of scripted Takis Candilis.
“As our international scripted business continues to expand … Banijay Studios International has huge potential to pursue growth by leveraging the development of the broad fiction activity across our group, and Frederic has the experience and skills to ensure that this task is delivered to the benefit of the entire scripted team,” said Candilis.
Former CEO of Golden Arrow Pictures Camille Gatin has also come on board as international producer.
She will oversee the production of Farewell Shanghai, the ambitious international co-production adapted from Angel Wagenstein’s novel about Jewish refugees in China during World War II. The script is being penned by Radu Mihaileanu (The History of Love) and will be shot in China in English.
“We recently announced a number of high-level international projects, which have just started production," Candilis said. "Her knowledge and hands-on experience will be invaluable for us and our partners going forward."
The two executives will be based in Banijay's Paris offices.
