Bavaria Film opens Berlin unit

COLOGNE, Germany -- Bavaria Film has set up a Berlin-based division to focus on the development and production of TV series and telefilms, the German production giant announced Friday.

Dirk Eisfeld -- formerly head of series, sitcoms and soaps at Berlin-based commercial channel Sat.1 -- will head up the new company, called Rubicon. Bavaria will hold a 90% stake in the company, with Eisfeld controlling 10%.

Bavaria already has a Berlin-based production house, Askania Media, which produces shows such as boarding school series "Schloss Einstein" and long-running crime drama "Tatort."
