H&M Taps Baz Luhrmann for New Campaign Film
The teaser announces the fast-fashion retailer's next designer collab.
Swedish fast-fashion retailer H&M has tapped Academy Award-nominated director Baz Luhrmann for its latest announcement.
Luhrmann has directed a teaser film that unveils London-based label Erdem as H&M's new designer collab. "For me, fashion is always about more than just clothing, it is a form of expression — a stand-alone art form," Luhrmann said in a statement.
The video sees models running through the green garden, revealing only the back of their wardrobe, which includes a pleated floral dress on one model and a patterned suit on another.
Designer Erdem Moralioglu, who founded Erdem in 2005, will design a women's collection for H&M that will "reflect and reinterpret the design themes from some of his most celebrated collections, playing with prints, textiles and his delicate craftsmanship," according to the release. He'll also create a men's range for the collab — his first time diving into menswear.
"I'm so happy to collaborate with H&M, and to explore my work on a whole new scale, including a menswear collection which I have never done before," said the designer. "It's also such a thrill to work with Baz Luhrmann, one of the most important storytellers of our time."
Luhrmann is no stranger to the fashion world, having created a holiday window display for Barneys at its Madison Avenue store in 2014 and most recently making the rounds at fashion week in February.
"From the moment we started talking with Erdem about the collaboration, I was captured by his vision," said H&M creative advisor Ann-Sofie Johansson. "For Erdem & H&M, he has created an enchanting world full of beauty, delicacy and rich details. These are special pieces you will want to wear forever."
Zoe Kazan, Kiernan Shipka and Nicole Kidman are among the famous faces to have previously worn Erdem on the red carpet. Rose Leslie was also seen wearing one his designs at Wednesday night's Game of Thrones season seven premiere.
The Erdem x H&M collab drops Nov. 2 in select stores and online.
