LONDON – Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire), Romola Garai (The Hour), Andrew Scott (Sherlock) and Simon Russell Beale (My Week With Marilyn) are among the cast of BBC Cold War drama Legacy.

The British public broadcaster said Thursday that they will be among the ensemble for the 90-minute TV movie. The screenplay by Paula Milne (The Politician’s Husband) is based on a novel by Alan Judd and produced by Slim Film + Television. It will be directed by Pete Travis (Dredd).

Also cast were Olivia Grant (Lark Rise To Candleford), Christian McKay (Tinker Taylor Solider Spy) and Tessa Peake Jones (Marchlands).

Travis and Milne previously collaborated on Channel 4 movie Endgame about the end of Apartheid in South Africa, for which they won the George Foster Peabody Award.

Billed as an espionage thriller, the project is set during the height of the Cold War in 1970s London and details the story of a young spy who discovers the disturbing truth about his father’s complex past.

Milne described Legacy as falling well within the genre of the British spy thriller, but added that it has "an extraordinary personal twist" because of the family relationships involved in the story.

The production was commissioned by BBC Drama controller Ben Stephenson and Janice Hadlow, controller, BBC Two.

The film is produced by Rob Bullock (Suspicions Of Mr Whicher) and executive produced by Simon Crawford Collins, Milne and Judd for Slim Film + Television, as well ass Lucy Richer for the BBC.
