BBC channels go online in India

NEW DELHI -- BBC Worldwide's Global Channels division on Friday said it has launched two of its channels, BBC Entertainment and kids' channel CBeebies on India Online Broadband.

The two channels were first launched here last week on Direct-To-Home platform Tata-Sky, a joint venture between News Corp.'s BSkyB and Indian business conglomerate Tata Group.

India Online Broadband offers various content streams via its IPTV platform, charging customers a one-time registration fee of $25, with monthly subscription charges at $5. IOL already offers the BBC's 24-hour news channel BBC World.

Showcasing original programming from the BBC and other British production houses, the two BBC channels on IOL Broadband will run as 12-hour services, CBeebies from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. and BBC Entertainment from 6 p.m.-6 a.m.
