BBC content acquired for VOD

CANNES -- BBC Worldwide has signed a wide-ranging VOD deal with ProSiebenSat.1, licensing such Brit hits as "Doctor Who," the science magazine "Horizon" and the wildlife documentary program "Big Cat Diary" to ProSieben's German VOD service Maxdome.

The BBC shows will be part of Maxdome's subscription service, which gives users unlimited downloads for about $30 a month. Maxdome customers also can buy individual shows or series for about $3 a pop for a 24-hour viewing period.

The BBC deal follows a similar multiyear agreement announced this week between ProSieben and Disney for a slate of new and library titles as well as new episodes of ABC hits "Lost," "Desperate Housewives" and "Grey's Anatomy."
