BBC Films has named Claudia Yusef its head of development, part of a new team under director Rose Garnett that also includes development executives Sam Gordon and Dionne Farrell.

Yusef joins from Carol and Colette producer Number 9 Films, which she joined in May as development head after stints as talent development exec at the Scottish Film Network and development exec at production and management banner 42.

“I’m over the moon that Claudia is joining us,” said Garnett, who was named head of BBC Films in February 2017. “We’ve taken time to carefully build a talented and dedicated creative team at BBC Films, and Claudia’s appointment marks the completion of that process and the start of an exciting new phase. We can’t wait for her to start.”

Added Yusef: “This opportunity to work for such an august institution, as part of such a dynamic, inspiring team was irresistible. I'm absolutely thrilled to help develop the next slate of BBC Films."

BBC Films’ editorial team is led by Garnett and also includes commissioning executive Eva Yates, development coordinator Yero Timi-Biu and development assistant Katie Sinclair.

Upcoming titles include three set to bow in Sundance: Sacha Polak’s Dirty God, Joanna Hogg’s The Souvenir, which was recently acquired by A24, and Chiwetel Ejiofor’s directorial debut The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, picked up by Netflix.
