BBC inks India mobile deals

Vodafone, Airtel to offer mobile video clips

NEW DELHI -- BBC World News, the revamped branding for BBC World, has inked content deals with six major mobile services in India, the world's second-largest mobile market.

BBCWN will provide news video clips for its Indian mobile partners that include Vodafone and Airtel.

"It is part of BBC World News' positioning as a tri-media news service, delivering international news and information across multiple platforms -- TV, online and mobile. We are no longer a linear media," BBC World managing director Anne Barnard said Wednesday.

Figures released early this week by India's Telecom Regulatory Authority of India indicate that the country had 261.1 million wireless subscribers as of March, second only to China's 574.6 million users.
