BBC set for Banff honor

TORONTO -- The BBC will receive the Banff World Television Festival's outstanding achievement award for 2007, organizers said Monday. BBC director general Mark Thompson will be on hand to accept.

"The BBC continues to lead the way with its outstanding television programming and brand," Jennifer Harkness, the Banff festival's director of content, said in announcing the June 10 tribute to the British pubcaster.

Thompson also is scheduled to participate in a Q&A session at the end of Banff's sister new-media event, nextMedia.

"I am particularly pleased for the recognition of the BBC's forward-looking role in innovating for new digital platforms and audiences across television, radio and online," Thompson said in a statement.

The Banff World Television Festival will run June 10-13 in the Canadian Rockies.
