BBC U.S. nabs TV rights for pics


BBC America said Wednesday that it has acquired rights to a slew of feature film titles through deals with Buena Vista Television and Sony Pictures Television.

BBC America said the deals include the network television premieres of "Calendar Girls" and "Kinky Boots," both acquired from BVT. "Calendar Girls," starring Helen Mirren and Julie Walters, is set to premiere at 9 tonight, while "Kinky Boots," starring Joel Edgerton and Chiwetel Ejiofor, will debut on BBC America in the summer.

Other titles acquired from BVT include "The Quiet American," starring Michael Caine and Brendan Fraser, which is set to air at 7 p.m. ET Jan. 2; "Essex Boys," featuring Sean Bean, Tom Wilkinson and Alex Kingston and premiering at 9 p.m. ET Nov. 14; "Ethan Frome," starring Liam Neeson, Joan Allen and Patricia Arquette and making its BBC America debut at 7 p.m. ET Jan. 3; and "The Crying Game," which stars Forest Whitaker, Miranda Richardson, Stephen Rea and Jim Broadbent and is set to air in the summer.

From Sony, BBC America has acquired the Hugh Grant-Andie MacDowell starrer "Four Weddings and a Funeral" and "Shallow Grave," starring Ewan McGregor, Christopher Eccleston and Kerry Fox, both of which are set to air in the summer.

Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.
