BBC Worldwide Buys 30 Percent Stake in Greenbird Media
Greenbird owns stakes in such production firms as Frank Spotnitz's ('The X-Files,' 'The Man in the High Castle') Big Light Productions.
BBC Worldwide has acquired a 30 percent stake in Greenbird Media, a company that owns stakes in various TV production firms, it was announced Wednesday.
The commercial arm of the U.K. public broadcaster didn't disclose the financial terms of the transaction.
Greenbird was formed by former Shine TV co-head Jamie Munro and partner Stuart Mullin in 2012 as a "production company incubator, investor and business accelerator." BBC Worldwide at the time agreed to a first-look distribution deal. Greenbird owns stakes and works with nine independent production firms, including a five percent stake in Big Light Productions, established by Frank Spotnitz (The X-Files, The Man in the High Castle).
BBC Worldwide chief content officer Helen Jackson now serves as a director on the board of Greenbird.
BBC Worldwide, led by CEO Tim Davie, has acquired a slew of stakes in production companies. Among them are interests in Ripper Street producer Lookout Point, factual program producer Amazing Productions and factual entertainment producer Curve Media.
