BBC Worldwide inks Australia B'casting deal

Pact gives ABC TV first look at content in several genres

CANNES -- BBC Worldwide has renewed its first option deal with the Australian Broadcasting Corp., which gives the Aussie broadcaster first-look rights to BBC fare across the region in a deal that will cover dramas, comedies, light entertainment, natural history for two more years.

Announced by BBC Worldwide's Julie Dowding and ABC head of programming Marena Manzoufas, the deal gives ABC TV a first look at content across these genres within the BBC Worldwide catalog.

"We have an exceptional relationship with ABC TV, and we are looking forward to strengthening it further as we develop our business in this key territory," said Dowding, BBC Worldwide's sales director for Australasia.
