Beijing Olympics play again on NBC

Bob Costas, Matt Lauer to host a look back

NEW YORK -- NBC will relive some of its finest hours of 2008 with a primetime special about the Beijing Olympics on Dec. 27.

The two-hour "Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony: TV Event of the Year" will be hosted by Bob Costas and Matt Lauer, who were the co-hosts when it aired in August. Lauer and Costas also will highlight some of the biggest moments from the Olympics, including the record-breaking performance of American swimmer Michael Phelps.

And there also will be a look forward at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, which NBC will also broadcast.

Primetime slots are nothing new to Costas -- he anchors NBC's Olympics coverage as well as "Football Night in America" every Sunday night in the fall -- but it's staying up late for Lauer. On Monday on NBC, he and the "Today" crew will take a look back at 2008. It's the first time in 13 years that "Today" has had an hour in primetime.
