Bell Canada in deal with Paramount

Top sellers available for $20 at Bell Video Store

TORONTO -- Canadian phone giant Bell Canada said Wednesday that it has reached agreement with Paramount Pictures and other digital producers to offer new TV and movie releases for legal purchase or rental at its Bell Video Store.

Toronto-based Bell's online service will offer download-to-own movies day-and-date with home video releases and download-to-rent soon afterwards.

Top-selling movies will sell for CAN$20 ($20.15), with other titles going for CAN$13 ($13.10) or less. The cost of digital rentals for a 24-hour period will range from CAN$2 ($2) to CAN$5 ($5.05).

In all, the Bell Video Store will initially make about 1,500 movie, TV shows, documentaries and music videos available for download 24/7.

Bell is to pact with Paramount Digital Entertainment for first-time release of its digital content in Canada, and with Canadian broadcaster Corus Entertainment to offer its animated content.

Going head-to-head with iTunes, the Bell Video Store also will tap digital content from boutique suppliers Maple Pictures, Eros Entertainment and Image Entertainment.

Canadians will be able to download Bell Video Store content via their computer, portable media player or TV set.
