Bell in 'Rome' at Disney
EmptyKristen Bell has signed on to star in "When in Rome," a romantic comedy that Mark Steven Johnson will direct for Disney.
Gary Foster, Rikki Bestall and Andrew Panay are producing.
Written by David Diamond and David Weissman, the story centers on a love-starved New York curator (Bell) who steals magical coins from a famous Roman fountain but soon finds herself in a bizarre situation when she is pursued back to New York by a band of aggressive suitors -- the very people whose coins she took.
The studio is looking at a mid- to late-April start.
Disney's Kristin Burr and Todd Murata are overseeing.
"Rome" marks a new genre for CAA-repped Johnson, who has of late been focusing on such comic book movies as "Ghost Rider" and "Daredevil."
For Bell ("Veronica Mars"), "Rome" continues her push into comedy; the actress will next been seen starring in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall." She is repped by CAA and Brookside Management.
Borys Kit reported from Berlin; Carolyn Giardina reported from Los Angeles.
