Ben Affleck will join Anne Hathaway in Dee Rees' Mudbound follow-up, The Last Thing He Wanted.
Toby Jones, Rosie Perez, Edi Gathegi and Mel Rodriguez are also joining the cast of the Netflix feature, which is currently filming in Puerto Rico.
Based on Joan Didion's 1996 novel, the movie will center on a hardscrabble journalist, Elena McMahon (Hathaway), who inherits her father's position as a dealmaker — an arms dealmaker. She soon finds herself on dangerous ground as the Iran-Contra Affair's arms-for-drugs plot reaches its tipping point.
Rees, who penned the screenplay with Marco Villalobos, will also produce alongside Cassian Elwes, the two having worked together on Mudbound. Jamin O’Brien, Wayne Godfrey, Robert Jones, Mark Lane and James Harris are exec producing.
The Last Thing He Wanted would be Affleck's second Netflix feature. He will next be seen opposite Charlie Hunnam and Oscar Isaac in J.C. Chandor's Triple Frontier. He is repped by WME and Ziffren Brittenham.
Jones is repped by the U.K.'s ARG and Bloom Hergott; Perez is repped by Innovative and Silver Lining; Gathegi is repped by ICM and Framework.
The Last Thing He Wanted is set for a 2019 release.
