Benicio Del Toro to Be Honored at Sarajevo Film Festival
The Oscar-winning actor will be honored with the Heart of Sarajevo Award for "extraordinary contribution to the art of film."
Oscar-winning actor Benicio Del Toro will receive the Sarajevo Film Festival's top honor, the Heart of Sarajevo Award, for his contribution to world cinema at next month's 21st edition of the event.
Del Toro will receive the distinctive silver heart-shaped lapel badge, designed by French producer and festival patron Agnes B, at an open- air screening of Fernando Leen de Aranoa’s drama A Perfect Day, in which he stars.
Del Toro, who won the best supporting actor Oscar in 2000 for his role in Steven Soderbergh's ensemble movie Traffic, was also later nominated for his work in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s 21 Grams. In 2008, Del Toro won best actor at Cannes for his role as South American revolutionary Che Guevara in Soderbergh's Che.
He joins previous recipients of the Sarajevo festival's most prestigious award, including Angelina Jolie, Gael Garcia Bernal, Steve Buscemi and directors Jafar Panahi, Mike Leigh, Bela Tarr and Danis Tanovic.
While in Sarajevo, Del Toro also will hold a master class for the participants of Talents Sarajevo, a networking and training platform for emerging film professionals from Southeast Europe and the Southern Caucasus.
Del Toro's next movie, Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario, sees him star opposite Emily Blunt and Josh Brolin. It is slated for a September release.
