Bennett Miller directing Oscar segment producing the tribute to film

Bennett Miller, a best director nominee for 2005’s “Capote,” is directing the film segment, produced by, that will open the 81st Annual Academy Awards.

The Academy is promising that the intro spot will be “a celebration of the language of film and the spirit of moviemaking and will include guest appearances by some of today’s moviemaking icons.”

In 2002, produced the film segment that opened the 75th anniversary edition of the Oscar show.

The production house also has worked on a range of projects  from the documentary “The Fog of War” to the pilot episode of “Mad Men” to the “Iconoclasts” series on the Sundance Channel as well as music videos and commercials.

ABC will broadcast the Academy Awards live on Feb. 22 from the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland.
