Berlin: 'A Diary of a Teenage Girl' Wins Generation Sidebar

Swedish drama 'Flocking' takes top prize from the Generation youth jury.

A Diary of a Teenage Girl, Marielle Heller's sexual coming-of-age drama, has taken the top prize in the Generation sidebar at the Berlin International Film Festival.

The drama, which stars Bel Powley, Alexander Skarsgard, Christopher Meloni and Kristen Wiig, won the Grand Prix of Generation 14plus section for best feature length film. The section features films with themes targeting teenagers and older youths.

Nena, from Dutch director Saskia Diesing, like Diary of a Teenage Girl a female coming-of-age tale; and Reunion, a Finnish comedy from directors Iddo Soskolne and Janne Reinikainen, both received a special mention from the Generation 14plus jury.

The Generation 14plus  youth jury picked Swedish drama Flocking from director Beata Gardeler for its top prize, the Crystal Bear. Special mention went to Prince from Dutch director Sam de Jong.

The prizes for Berlin's Panorama and Forum sections, as well as the festival's main competition honors, the Gold and Silver Bears, will be handed out Feb. 14.
