Berlin: Johannes Roberts to Direct 'The Strangers' Sequel
'The Other Side of the Door' director will helm the follow-up to the 2008 horror film penned by the original's writer/director Bryan Bertino and is scheduled to begin shooting this summer.
Bloom has taken international rights to The Strangers 2, the sequel to the 2008 horror hit starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman, which grossed over $82 million worldwide.
Indie horror director Johannes Roberts will helm the sequel, while Bryan Bertino, who wrote and directed the original film, will pen the script with The Forest screenwriter Ben Ketai.
The film is being produced by The Fyzz Facility Pictures, which recently produced Martin Scorsese's Silence, in association with Relativity Media. Bloom will be handling international sales at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin.
The Strangers 2 follows a family whose road trip takes a turn when they arrive at a secluded mobile home park and after the power goes out they decide to hunker down for the night in a borrowed trailer. Under the cover of darkness, three masked psychopaths pay them a visit to test their every limit. Filming is scheduled to begin this summer.
“The Strangers redefined the home invasion genre by perfectly combining character and terror in a way that we rarely see," The Fyzz’s co-founder Mark Lane said in a statement. "This is a sequel that has been eagerly awaited and we are delighted to deliver it to the fans.”
Roberts added that he is excited to "bring the brilliant set-up from the first movie to a new generation and deliver a powerful sequel."
