Berlin: Fantasy Film 'He Is a Dragon' Picked Up for Japan, Germany
Sales of the title to China, Korea and France are expected to be finalized soon.
Japan's Inter Film Co. and Germany's Splendid Film GmbH acquired the Russian film On — drakon (He Is a Dragon), produced by Timur Bekmambetov's company, Bazelevs, at EFM.
Sales of the $20 million fantasy movie, directed by Indar Dzhendubayev, to China, Korea and France are expected to be finalized before the end of this month, while negotiations with Latin America are in an active stage, said Bazelevs' exclusive distributor Mirsand Ltd.
He Is a Dragon is centered on the story of Princess Miroslava, who is abducted by a dragon on her wedding day and taken to an island castle.
The movie was released in Russia last December and grossed $1.8 million, according to local data base Kinopoisk, which was substantially below the performance of Bazelevs' previous releases.
At EFM, Mirsand Ltd. also offered two Bazelevs movies that are currently in production, scheduled to be released later this year: family fantasy Alisa znayet, chto delat (Alisa Knows What To Do) and space action Vremya pervykh (Time of the First).
