'Brain on Fire' is being directed by Irish filmmaker Gerard Barrett.

Fresh off the back of his latest feature Glassland unspooling at Sundance, Irish director Gerard Barrett's next project will be available to buyers at the European Film Market next month.

London-based production and sales outfit Mister Smith Entertainment announced Thursday that it is launching international sales on Canada-Ireland co-production Brain on Fire, starring Dakota Fanning. WME is handling domestic sales.

Barrett is set to direct from his own screenplay, based on The New York Times best-selling memoir by Susannah Cahalan about a woman's sudden descent into insanity following a mysterious illness.

"The script is a breathtaking account of a young woman's nightmarish experience. It is both extraordinary and yet so relatable," Mister Smith's founder David Garrett said in a statement. "Dakota Fanning is such a talent and perfect for the role, whilst Gerard Barrett has shown himself to be the master of emotional cinema."

Brain on Fire is being produced by Charlize Theron, Beth Kono and A.J. Dix for their Denver and Delilah Films, which recently inked a deal with UCP, and Rob Merilees for Foundation Features.

Principal photography is due to start in May.
