Berlin: TriCoast Unveils Label Rock Salt Releasing
The new auteur-driven sales and distribution banner is kicking off with sales of Kazuhiro Soda's Berlin official selection 'Inland Sea.'
U.S. sales banner TriCoast Worldwide has launched Rock Salt Releasing, a new independent sales and distribution label spearheaded by acquisitions exec Daisy Hamilton.
Aimed at auteur-driven festival titles, Rock Salt will distribute films in the U.S., starting with Susanne Bier’s A Second Chance, and sell high-level packages in the foreign marketplace.
In Berlin, it launched sales on Rotterdam, I Love You, the next installment in the Cities of Love franchise, and Kazuhiro Soda’s black-and-white observational documentary Inland Sea, which is competing in the Berlinale official selection.
"At TriCoast, we’re creating a brand exclusively for evocative films. Those that speak to the psyche and leave a special kind of residue on the viewer, the kind that must be processed, discussed, debated or dreamed about,” said Hamilton.
She will work along side Dean Fernando, previous CineFile manager-creative director and new TriCoast acquisition executive.
"I plan to bring my shared affinity for festival favorites and auteur directors like Kurosawa, Godard, Fellini, Bergman, etc., but also to share my love for genre films and genre," said Fernando.
"Managing CineFile allowed me to see what sold to particular demographics in all genres, and because of the prestige and history of the store, we were visited by agents; producers; studio heads; and filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino, Nicolas Winding Refn and Paul Thomas Anderson, so I made a lot of great contacts working there. And now that I’m with Rock Salt Releasing, I’m finally in a position where I can utilize them," he said.
