If the magenta carpet at Sunday's Billboard Music Awards is any indication, the days of braided crowns are past. A trio of women this year put their own spins on the ubiquitous braid, each well-tailored to the individual aesthetics of their looks.

To vibe with her bright orange bohemian dress, performer Tove Lo wore her hair loose and down, with knotty hippie-style braids in random sections of her long locks. The effect was quite DIY and casual, befitting her frock.

Quantico star Priyanka Chopra, who is currently filming the Baywatch reboot, also went a bit messy with her ‘do. She paired a stunning backless Versace gown in bold blue with a pulled-apart fishtail braid and a few strands of hair framing her face.

Lastly, Pretty Little Liars’ Lucy Hale wore a low, slick ponytail with her Zuhair Murad look. But the presenter’s hairstyle was not without a strong point of interest: a single cornrow that extended from the crown of her head down into her pony.
