BET ups Mills to Viacom president

BET Networks has filled out its senior management ranks, promoting Scott Mills to president and COO of the Viacom division.

Mills, formerly CFO and president of digital media at BET, steps into the post vacated by Debra Lee, chairman and CEO of the company. She took over the top job from network founder Bob Johnson in January 2006.

Replacing Mills as CFO is Michael Pickrun, formerly executive vp and COO of BET Interactive. Replacing Mills as president of digital media is Denmark West, executive vp and chief of operations of another Viacom unit, MTV Networks' global digital media.

"Scott brings incredible operational, financial and digital expertise to this new role – qualities that will help him guide BET Networks to a position of even greater growth," said Lee.

Mills, who is based in Washington D.C., will oversee all business functions at BET. Programming, marketing and corporate communications will continue to report to Lee, as well as sister network BET J.

Mills has been with BET for 10 years, first as senior vp strategy and business development. Previously, he was a vice president at Lehman Brothers.
