Several celebrities tweeted congratulations to the new parents, including Rihanna, who wrote, "Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih."

Russell Simmons wrote, "congrats to my good friends Beyonce and Jay-Z."

Original reports listed the baby's name as Ivy Blue, but friends of the couple, including Gwyneth Paltrow, made the correction. "Welcome to the world Blue! We love you already," Paltrow tweeted. After one Twitter user asked "@GwynethPaltrow is it ivy blue, or blue ivy? so confused." Paltrow responded, "It's Blue Ivy Carter!"

Fans had been eagerly awaiting the birth of Beyonce's first child. Rumors began circulating more than a week ago that the powerhouse couple had already given birth to their child, but Beyonce's sister Solange quickly put those rumors to rest.

Instead of putting out a press statement, the "Single Ladies" singer announced her baby news in August on the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards. She posed openly for photos, rubbing her growing baby bump. She even gave a shoutout to her future child while performing during the show.
